U.S. Travel CEO defends government employee trips In light of the new report about lavish spending at IRS employee conferences, the head of the U.S. Travel Association is urging lawmakers to remember that travel and meetings "are critical tools for efficient and effective government." The report by the U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration "describes instances of inappropriate and wasteful spending on the part of IRS employees, who clearly went too far beyond the rules put in place to protect taxpayer dollars," Roger Dow said Wednesday.
